Michael Robertson: Director
Dr Michael Robertson is the Director of CSIRO Agriculture and Food. He is based in Perth, Western Australia. His research background is in agricultural science, with an undergraduate degree from Lincoln University, New Zealand, and a PhD from the University of Queensland, specialising in crop agronomy and simulation modelling. He had a 2-year post-doctoral stint in the USA in the early 1990’s.
Michael has worked for CSIRO in Townsville, Brisbane and Perth where his work has aimed to develop and use information-intensive methods and products (e.g., predictive models, precision agriculture, digital innovation) to inform better management regimes for farming systems. Michael has served in various leadership roles in CSIRO and was Deputy Director in CSIRO Agriculture and Food prior to his current role. He has led teams that impact on farm practice, agribusiness activities, and commercial ventures. Michael also has led multi-disciplinary teams to tackle complex agricultural issues, and has worked from the tropics to the temperate zone and with all major broadacre industries.
