Transforming food system governance is essential for achieving better social, environmental, and economic outcomes. In this webinar, Dr. Dori Patay will introduce the conceptual foundations of whole-of-government and whole-of-food system institutions for food system governance. She will then present findings from her team’s global policy analysis of 197 countries, which mapped existing multisectoral food system governance institutions worldwide. Dr. Patay will discuss the 34 national-level institutions identified and introduce a governance typology designed to guide policymakers and researchers in developing multisectoral food system governance approaches.

Who will you hear from?

Dr Dori Patay is a food system governance expert and one of the few governance researchers globally who investigate whole-of-food system governance and whole-of-government approaches to food system governance with an applied research lens. Her current trajectory focuses on scaling evidence-to-policy pathways, particularly through co-design approaches with policy practitioners. She works at the University of Sydney, Leeder Centre for Health Policy, Economics & Data as a Research Fellow.

Dr Rohan Nelson is an agricultural and food system economist on secondment from ABARES to CSIRO and is co-editor of the state of the food system report and is lead author of the report’s Overview. His has expertise in the design of future-ready public sector analysis and reporting systems in the agriculture and food sectors. Along the way he has acquired deep knowledge and practical skills in the participatory co-design of food system, industry, innovation, climate and natural resource management policy.
