South East Queensland Food Systems Strategy
We want your input to shape a SEQ food systems strategy that reflects local needs and contexts.
A SEQ Food Systems Strategy will guide actions for a resilient, productive and sustainable food system that supports the region’s economic and social prosperity. Together with the South East Queensland Council of Mayors (CoMSEQ) and its member councils, we’re defining the mission, goals, and actions of the strategy over the next 6 months.
Get involved
We are co-hosting in-person workshops across South East Queensland to embed local voices and community interests in a SEQ Food Strategy. Forums will support discussions about the ways that diverse organisations from producers to consumers can communicate their aspirations and preferences for a sustainable food system.
The forums welcome a wide range of food system stakeholders who live and work in South East Queensland region.

About the strategy
By 2046, SEQ will be home to 6 million people. Feeding this growing population means tackling challenges from climate variability, extreme weather, and global events—all while supporting a region that attracts millions of visitors each year.
Agriculture is an economic strength of our region. We produce over 20% of the State’s total Gross Value Product, are home to over 11,000 agribusinesses, and directly employ over 28,000 people. The Council of Mayors South East Queensland (CoMSEQ) and CSIRO are working with councils, government agencies, industry and community groups to co-create an SEQ Food Systems Strategy.
