Webinar: Why take a systems perspective?

FRIDAY, 4 October 2024

12:00NN to 1:00PM AEST

ONLINE (MS Teams)

The system we rely on to produce, distribute and consume our food is complex, with diverse components and drivers, and interactions that result in sometimes surprising outcomes. Most of the challenges our food system face, such as nature loss, climate change, and food insecurity, are unintended consequences of interactions we either didn’t see, or could not avoid given pathways we chose.  The same challenges require us to think, act and innovate through systems.

Food System Horizons is hosting a conversation with CSIRO’s Andy Hall and Jody Bruce about why take a systems perspective. Join us in this lunchtime webinar to hear about the underpinnings and practicalities of systems thinking, and how to consider and embed this way of thinking in projects and strategy.

Our speakers

Dr Andy Hall

Andy is a Senior Principal Research Scientist with CSIRO Agriculture and Food and is based in Canberra, Australia. He is a science and technology policy analyst with a specialisation in the study and design of agriculture innovation processes, policies and practices.  Andy did pioneering research on the nature and performance of agricultural innovation systems and currently researchers the enablers of transformational innovation in agri-food systems. Andy works with Food System Horizons on agricultural innovation policy issues related to agri-food system transformation.

Ms Jody Bruce

Jody is the Regional Transitions Lead for the Towards Net Zero Mission in CSIRO. This work looks at how to embed low emissions technology in systems of use in regions and support just and equitable transitions by capturing the opportunities that can flow in a low emissions economy. She is working with others in CSIRO and external partners to understand in what ways innovation support can accelerate regional transitions in differing contexts. Jody also leads the Agri-Food Systems Group in the Sustainability program in Agriculture and Food, which is home to Food System Horizons.

Is there another chance to join?
